About Sons of the Forest Saves

Sons of the Forest (Endnight Games, Unity) writes each save slot as a set of JSON files — PlayerStateSaveData.json, GameStateSaveData.json, SaveData.json and more. Most meaningful values live inside a stringified JSON blob under a 'Data' key (e.g. Data.PlayerState, Data.GameState), so our editor matches leaf keys with a wildcard and hides anything your save doesn't expose. Adjust health and survival meters, level up strength, set the time of day and days survived, and flip companion death flags to bring Kelvin or Virginia back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Sons of the Forest save files stored?

In %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves\<steamid>\, split into SinglePlayer and Multiplayer folders, then one folder per slot. Sort by modified date to find the latest.

How do I bring Kelvin or Virginia back to life?

Set IsRobbyDead (Kelvin) or IsVirginiaDead false in GameStateSaveData.json, then in SaveData.json set that companion's entity State from 6 back to 2 and Health to 100.

Why don't I see all the stat fields?

Values are nested inside a stringified Data blob and some stats only appear after the game sets them once. Missing rows are hidden automatically.
